The writing of such a book inevitably involves balancing between the amount of detail provided and the level of accessibility for the average layman; in my opinion, the author manages this remarkably well. Almost everything that spans the gamut of wireless technology is covered, apart from technically involved topics, yet the conciseness of the text allows the reader to have a good grasp of the relevant issues within a short time. What makes this book stand out though is the refreshing insight into various aspects of the technology offered by the author; the preface says that "it is designed to look beyond the hype", and from what is written you can tell that the author knows what he is talking about.
I will definitely be looking out for a second edition and other works by Andy Dornan.

This book gives an excellent, clear picture of the state of things. I work for a small agresive company in the Telecommunications field and I give copies to the sales staff so they know what we are selling and also to development staff so they have some context of what they are trying to build. If you are at all interested in this area and don't have any knowledge of the area, START HERE!

This book is a clear and useful, very useful, introduction to the wireless space. I found that this book introduced me to technical terms, standards, and business concepts I had sometimes heard about before, but the author lays out the details in a very clear and detailed manner. For example, this book helped me to understand 3G much better. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to get a much better overview of the wireless space.

Soon we will be able to access our email from our cell phones and surf the Net from your watch. The Europeans and Japanese already can. America is catching up. But do we really want the phone company to know where we are all the time?
