Lots of data, little information - 2008-07-30

As a book for learning a topic, this one is wanting. It doesn't develop the numerous code snippets into whole programs, leaving the reader uncertain how they actually work. It states much, explains little. As others have pointed out, there are many books on related programming topics that do a good job of bringing a novice or modestly experienced programmer up to speed - one must be a well versed programmer to benefit from this book.

Well put together - 2010-05-31

This book is well written and informative. I have some previous experience working with the platform, and so use this book more as a reference text than a tutorial, but none the less I have learned a lot. In combination with the wxwiki and forums I have no doubt that anyone could build an application using this book as a cornerstone.

Still troubles on OSX - 2009-03-07

I was never able to get DialogBlocks to build the wx library. Kept freezing halfway through. Eventually I gave up and spent a lot of time setting up an Eclipse environment. (This is on an old Powerbook...) Haven't worked with wx in windows or linux yet, but so far I can say that this book is NOT for the beginner. You should have a pretty solid foundation in windowed application design, makefiles and the gcc linker.

This isn't the book's fault, but cross-platform GUI development is still quite complicated. wxWidgets is a great tool that has really grown into maturity, but it is certainly not panacea :) Fortunately, there are some very patient and experienced developers in the wx-user mailing list.

The book itself is the only one on this matter. It is well written with tons of examples. I would consider this book as a must for those who are writing the
Cross-Platform GUI using open source libs. The book came very fast and in a perfect condition. I would highly recommend buying books from this seller.

This book is very complete.
It explains the basics and all the way through the most complex capabilities of the wxWidgets library.
The CD included contains tons of useful code and additional utilities.
Very good product - I recommend it.
