Excellent Resource for Beginners - 2006-08-14

I am a technician by trade, but I am very new to the web building world. The last time I attempted to build a web page was when c-tags were in style. When I bought this book I knew almost nothing about GoLive CS. I have now completed most of the lessons in the book and I will say I was hard-pressed to find any errors. Trust me, I know error proned books (i.e. CCNA). This book is perfect for a beginner and will lead one by the hand. The lesson material on the CD uses good examples. The book is far from exhaustive, but it will get one started. There is a whole lot in GoLive that is left to explore. After reading the book I have been able to build a good sized web site with many pages, and with many different styles.

I ordered 3 of the adobe classroom in a book series, from 3 different vendors associated with amazon.com's used/new system. Very good results on several other attempts to get books out of print, or past their new release dates. Ordered Illustrator CS, Go Live CS and In Design Cs. The first two books were perfect in every way. The In Design CS book was also in very good condition, however, there was no cd with the book. A fact that was missing from the listing when I ordered. On the packing sheet included with the book, it did mention the missing cd, a little late in my opinion. The cd which accompanies the classroom in a book series is an important adjunct to the material contained in these books and I personally would not order a book that was missing the cd. Evidently, a phone call to the dealer is necessary to find out the status of the material before paying for it and winding up disappointed when it is too late to return the item due to the expense of shipping. Speaking of shipping, ordering multiple books from a dealer under the amazon umbrella will not get you any discount which is unfortunate for those folks who order more than one book at a time.

For a Newbie, It's a Must Have - 2008-01-05

I had never used GoLive but decided to purchase it for the non-profit for which I was webmaster. As a user of other Adobe products, I had learned not to buy the first edition of Classroom, but to wait for subsequent editions, which contained corrections to the inevitable errors found in the first.

I purchased this one and was delighted with it. Using the exercises, I got the rudiments of using the application in about 2-3 days. After that, I used it pretty much as a reference and found it somewhat more handy that the User Guide for that purpose. Within a workweek, having learned what I did from this book, I was able to upload the site to our domain host and perform daily maintenance quickly and easily. Over the three+ years I managed the site, I returned to this book several times to refresh my memory on something or to learn to do something new that had not previously been needed.

When I left, I advised my replacement to spend her infrequently busy first days while everyone else was on holiday, to work through the book. Using what she'd learned, she was able to make minor changes to the website from her third day, despite having NO experience with website management. This has ensured requests to me for help are much lower.

It may not have worked for everyone, but for me it's been an extremely useful book!

Adobe GoLive CS Classroom in a Book Revised - 2007-09-27

This is a great product that Adobe makes. I did the the whole book and learned a lot about web design. I'm now trying to make my own web site and I have many of the basics, though, I have to admit, still a lot of questions. I don't know what they could have done more so that I could design now with the greatest of ease, unless they would know exactly the type of web site that I want to design. And of course there are as many types of web sites as there are types of houses. But again, they gave me a lot of the basics in a very hands-on way that I could drill them, so I recommend the CIB series. I learned a lot about InDesign a few years ago with the CIB for that, for example, too. It's an economic, effective way to learn the basics.

An EXCELLENT read! - I highly recommend this after you learn a little about HTML. I was very committed to reading the entire book and went fullsail with building multiple websites since its completion.
