I purchased this book because of the high reviews that it received from others and it has certainly lived up to those reviews. Ben Forta has a way of cutting through the details by giving concise explanations of each database statement and by providing output examples of each statement. His prose is not so terse as to leave the reader in the dark but just verbose enough to promote an understanding of the MySQL language syntax. This is an excellent book to have next to your computer whenever you need to confirm your syntax or if you need to figure out how to perform a query that may be complex. Even the size of the book is a plus (5.5 x 8 in.), as it's quite easy to thumb through and locate whatever it is you need. Just another great book from Sams Publishing.

Could have had more exercises for the reader, but still, quite useful for someone looking to gain quick SQL skills. Well written and clear.

Easy, complete, flows naturally and logically. This book took me from a total noob to a fairly confident MySQL user in about three weeks. Don't be intimidated that everything is done on the command line, as I initially was... it's the only way to learn MySQL, even if you never use the command prompt again.

This book does a great job of presenting both basic concepts that aid in understanding how mySQL works and practical tips and instructions to get you started. Also, it's not a ridiculously huge brick of a book. You can stick it in your bag and bring it with you to read on the train...

I have been in the business of sql/Mysql for some time, and in the journey, I have accumulated a plethora of books. But the queen of all books is this simple unassuming book.
For revision and refreshing my memory I come back to this book again and again. Why is this book so dear to me? because it has a very simple and logical style. Words are not wasted, there is a respect for your time.
To me it is the Bible of SQL. I will always keep this book.
A resounding 5 Stars, Congratulations Mr Forta.
