This IBM Redbook is designed as a study guide for professionals
wishing to prepare for the certification exam (Test 222) to
achieve: IBM Certified Specialist eServer p5 and pSeries
Administration and Support for AIX 5L Version 5.3. The
certification validates a broad scope of AIX 5L administration,
support, problem determination skills, and the ability to perform
general AIX 5L software system maintenance.
This redbook helps AIX 5L professionals seeking a comprehensive and
task-oriented guide for developing the knowledge and skills
required for the certification. It is designed to provide a
combination of theory and practical experience needed for a general
understanding of the subject matter.
This redbook does not replace practical experience you should have,
but is an effective tool that, when combined with education
activities and experience, should prove to be a very useful
preparation guide for the exam. Due to the practical nature of the
certification content, this publication can also be used as a
desk-side reference. So, whether you are planning to take the
eServer p5 and pSeries Administration and Support for AIX 5L
Version 5.3 certification exam, or if you just want to validate
your AIX 5L skills, this redbook is for you.

This book covers just about every nook and cranny that may become necessary for AIX administrators. You may not need everything but they will come a time you will need something covered in this book.
Some of the subjects covered are:
Planning
AIX 5L installation and updates
Boot Process
Configuration
Storage and LVM
Monitoring and tuning
Problem Determination and Resolution
Backup and recovery / Disaster recovery
Daily Management
What this book does not cover is any depth of subject. Unfortunately those in the know think that being certified in general administration is a prerequisite for more in-depth knowledge of specifics. I specialize in languages which are not covered in this book or test. And I work in shell scripting which is not covered. I also specialize in kernel and kernel dumps which are only cursory covered in chapter nine. The book is also written by two to six week residents which is a tad short for any real trial by fire experience.
Still all it takes is one good answer at the right time to pay for the purchase of this book.
