Critical Listening Skills for Audio Professionals

With an abundance of useful screenshots and clear steps, this book covers not only the basics of using Digital Performer, but also covers the new and enhanced features. With its hundreds of features and effects, endless manipulation tools, and difficult manual, Digital Performer isn’t the type of application that most people can pick up and begin using right away without some outside help. "Digital Performer 4 Ignite!" meets that need. For beginners, it's useful as a step-by-step tutorial to the elements of Digital Performer 4. For veteran users, it acts as a great reference guide to quickly access certain topics or to find out what’s new in this version.
Features
Contains many large screenshots with numbered callouts explaining exactly what is happening in the illustrations.
Covers topics for beginners, as well as upgrade users.
This book flows in a manner that acts like building blocks - making sure enough information is provided before moving on to the next step.
Includes the most up-to-date content for Mac users making the switch to OS X, who will therefore need to upgrade to DP4.
Written by an experienced author and computer teacher — a great way to learn Digital Performer.

This has to be one of the worst book purchases I have ever made, and I paid the full retail 19.95 for it. I am the first to admit that DP4 is a very complex program, and I was looking for a book that would help me discover some of the more advanced features, but this book never gets past explaining the most basic of basic features. The graphics are page-filling, the type is large and, most annoying of all, the text does not explain anything you can't get from reading the "Getting Started" book which comes with DP4. I admit, I'd like to see a good after-market guide to Digital Performer, but this book is NOT IT! Pass it by if you value your money...

Not Impressed. The information included is self-evident. I am, however, very impressed with the "ableton live 2.0 Power" book. The Ignite series seems to be very, as one other reader mentioned, heavy on the screenshots and blank space. I am under the impression that the author is doing his best to pump out these manuals at a rapid pace and quickly takes screenshots of every obvious command, making for a very pretty, yet trite, picture. I am returning the book and have pre-ordered the digital performer POWER book, which at 400 pages, will hopefully have something written about POLAR, one of the best features yet which is not even mentioned in the book. VST-i plugins are also not mentioned at all. VST plugins are not discussed AT ALL. How is this possible? Is this a training manual? It reminds me of Pangloss, the mentor of Candide, who tells us that in this, the best of all possible worlds, we must accept everything as being for the best. I however, do not agree with this philosophy of Liebnitz and must claim that this work is an insult to my money and my musical intelligence. I am also from Toronto, and I suggest that the author cleans up his act in order to do justice to our fair city! I was looking for erudition, yet there is no translatio studii here, Erasmus would be ashamed.

Nothing more than a five page 'quick start' guide that has been shamelessly padded out with gallons of white space and extra large screen shots so as to turn it from a pamphlet into a book. Useless.

...I will never buy another book through Amazon without reading customer reviews first. This book is complete GARBAGE and the author MUST know it. This books smacks of someone taking advantage of those who bought Digital Performer and were looking for a guide to help break down the learning curve. This books spends time figuring out cheap ways to waste your time and money by walking you through the MOST MUNDANE TASKS possible on a computer. Please, I need you to help me resize windows?? RESIZE WINDOWS?? OR QUIT THE PROGRAM!?! Please, this book should be listed as children's literature and that should be the end of it. My only consolation is that I bought it USED for $3...

If you spent the money for a program like this, then i'm guessing you know how to open files etc... this book was just too basic. Anyone that might benefit from this book should just use garageband until they need a more advanced program. this will save you money. If you need a program like this, than you will likely have no need for this book.
