If you own Advanced Photoshop CS2 Trickery & FX, please think twice before you purchase this volume. While some of the page numbers have changed, the content has not. The book does contain outstanding images that will definitely spark your creativity, but you have seen it all before in the previous edition. Stephen Burns IS an amazing artist, but he has followed Caplin's lead (How to Cheat in Photoshop) and decided to add very few new concepts/ideas.

While the information around the techniques in this book is great, it seems like it wasn't edited very well. Some of the instructions for things like tool commands in the book do not match the Photoshop CS3 tool commands. For example, in one part it says press "P" to bring up the paintbrush, but in CS3 "P" brings up the pentool. It might be a small deal to locate the paintbrush, but these sorts of things cause you to not maintain concentration on the techniques used in the book, and as a result you spend time focusing on the differences between CS2 and CS3, which is not supposed to be the purpose for this book.
I'd give this five stars if it had been properly edited, but because of the issues involved, I'll give it 3 stars.

I needed this book for school and it is one of the worst Photoshop books I've read. The tutorials are either out of date (for CS3) or are missing information. When doing the book assignments I had to search online in order to figure out what they are talking about, and I am pretty good with Photoshop. I gave it 3 because I think as long as you are familiar with Photoshop you could work around the glitches in the book.
