This chapter describes some of the basic information about the report development environment within Oracle CRM On Demand and provides an introduction to the methodology of embedded analytics. If you have read, or keep for reference, a copy of my first book Oracle CRM On Demand Reports (McGraw-Hill/Professional, 2008), you may be familiar with Oracle On Demand Answers. If you are new to Oracle CRM On Demand and picked up this book to learn how to build, create, and embed reports in Oracle CRM On Demand, I highly recommend that you begin with the earlier book. This book will review some of the basics, but is not intended to be a complete reference. Experience with report development is important for you to successfully embed reports throughout the Oracle CRM On Demand application.
First, we will discuss some basic information about the Oracle CRM On Demand environment and the administrative settings that are necessary for access to report development tools within the application. Since we are also embedding reports throughout the application, some additional administrative access is required beyond report development.
