Has everything needed for either the 640-822 or the 640-802 exam.  The author is clearly VERY familar with the exact topics and details in these exams as this edition clearly covers anything and everything you are likely to encounter and not too much additional detail you don't need.

I've looked at many other books and Wendell Odom is the only author to include everything that is covered in these exams.  Pay special attention to all the tables, they serve as excellent reference material when studying.  Simply the most complete and concise book available for ICND1.

For those new to networking, I wouldn't start with this book because it isn't targeted to the absolute beginner.  Instead give Richard Deal's CCNA book a try, then come back to this book for all the details.

"Not very informative." - by jlocohustler on 23-MAR-2012

Not a very good book if you want to learn networking because the book doesn't do a good job at explaining things but just mentions them briefly with minimum details. In other places, the book really tries to explain but uses technical terms too early on, so, gets you baffled and demotivated very easily.

It's a book like "Once upon a time there was networking and blah blah blah"-like a novel. So, if you're looking for a technical information, I don't think reading a novel is really a good way to go.
