Ms Leigh Thompson is a known and credible author but this book lacks a systematic structure totally. Negotiating is not a series of ' do these and do not do those " type of practices only. Dos and donts are necessary but helpful only when you have a system. Dos may be donts and donts may be your useful dos depending on your overall negotiation strategy and policies ( two totally differing entities for negotiating ). Anybody who is to face a hard nosed negotittior may experience severe difficulties if he/she adapts suggestions written in The Truth About Negotiations. It is a disappointment for anybody who is to negotiate in real business life. YOU CANNOT NEGOTIATE WITH ANYBODY UNLESS YOU HAVE THE POWER OF GETTING OUT OF THE NEGOTIATION ROOM. Life is not a series of negotiations. Life is designed around smart solutions and compromises. A through and through negotiator may end up with a divorce, an unhappy kid or a no-job after a series of succesful negotiations. The book misses the whole point behind the myth of negotiations.

I have read many of Thompsons books. Leigh Thompson means quality for me. This book is easy to read even you don't know much of negotiation theories. She takes the most interesting questions about negotiation on the table. Shortly, but based on researches. So, you can believe what she says - and learn. Thanks Leigh, again.

As good, if not better, then any of the general negotiation books out there. Would have liked to see more on the importance of CI & planning.
Doesn't emphasize preparation as the key factor to any negotiation. Too much on the sexy stuff.
