The book will provide insider tips, traps, and techniques on how to
create 3d assets for use in computer games and simulation systems.
The book will consist of a series of tutorials, starting with
simpler models and moving up to more complex builds. As the book
comes to us directly from successful game artists within commercial

Excellent modeling book, in my opinion.
The book starts dealing with low-poly modeling concepts and then moves toward texturing and normal mapping generation through simple, but effective, exercises. The more advanced chapters cover the practices of creating three assets for games. First, a truck is modeled step-by-step and then mapped to receive the textures. Second assets is a full XBox/PS3-like character (as you can see on the cover), modeled step-by-step and then mapped to receive textures. This chapter also discusses (in every detail) all the necessary steps to generate a normal map from its high-poly counterpart. Third game asset is a factory-like scenario (as you can also see on the cover), this time not modeled in step-by-step because the author correctly assumes that you learned how to do that in the previous chapters. Finally, the book discusses important aspects of a good portfolio and how to present it in an job interview.
As this book explains so many game modeling principles and practices in a clear and enjoyable way, I'm giving it five stars.
Cheers,
Christiano.

Don't get me wrong Andrew 's a really really good modeler. The example are well explained but the only thing's that bugs me It's the pictures in the book. Those are way way too tiny you have to open every .Max scene to see what he did in the book. Also be sure that you've got a good base in 3ds max and Photoshop or else trust me, this book's gonna kill you.

The reading is much to misleading to actually accomplish some of these tasks and it does not stimulate creativity well since the book is on rails. I suggest just using help in max or the internet and save your cha ching.

This book has creative tips and ideas but the Author expects you to know where all the buttons for the things covered in the book, I feel like i'am taking more time searching for buttons then i am reading and doing the tutorial.
