A DEFINITE MUST HAVE FOR THE DEMANDING VIDEOGRAPHER!!!!! - 2008-05-05

This book is very good for beginners as well as amateurs or anyone new to sound editing. It walks you through how to use the program. It also shows you step by step how to clean up your audio by removing cracks and pops and has some examples of how to use sound effects which, by the way, has numerous sound effects as well. It has what is called a sound effect rack that you can add up to 5 effects at any one time. This program reminds me of my music days when I played in a band and we had all these sound effects pedals and component racks. This software has all that and more built right into to the software. This is a toned down version of Adobe Audition, but it still has everything the demanding videographer will need. This software comes with built in soundtracks that you could edit your video, in real time, to any size of video length. One of the best features allows you to use markers on the waveforms as the video and audio is playing allowing greater effeciency when adding titles.

A definite must have for the demanding videographer!!!!

I am new to Adobe Soundbooth. This book seems to be missing information. For example, the introduction is an overview of features. They start you off by having you access the different sections, but then do not give you complete paths to access all areas within the section to which they directed you and are discussing. I was often left hanging or had to explore my way around the application.

The lessons do not explain why you are accessing a specific setting or elaborate on why specific settings were chosen. It would have been helpful to me, to have the discussion provide information on why certain settings were suggested, which setting may optimize section-specific information or apply it differently.

I am going to look for a resource now with a little more practical detail. This seems like it was rushed. Learning by exploration is also learning, but this book is a little too anemic.
