by Tom Negrino; Dori Smith
This is the Safari online edition of the printed book.
Adobe Dreamweaver CS4 is more than just the world’s most popular and powerful Web design tool: As part of Creative Suite 4 (which includes Photoshop CS4 and Flash CS4), it’s a key component of an overall Web design workflow that encourages users to rely on all of their applications to seamlessly create graphically rich content for the Web and motion graphics. This information- and image-packed guide lets users get right down to work by providing exact steps for the Dreamweaver CS4 features they’re most likely to need and use, including new features like CSS-based page layout with Absolute Placement objects, Spry datasets for pages built with live data, Spry validation forms for collecting user input, and Spry effects. The book showcases each in a stand-alone tip, complete with a relevant hint or two and helpful screenshot. This is how readers can learn just what they need to know, exploring the program at their own pace to learn just the features and tools they need.

I know InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator, but I just hadn't broken through with Dreamweaver until I got this book. I had even watched some of the Lynda training videos, but found them too plodding to stick with. This book allowed me to go at my own pace, and it builds an understanding of Dreamweaver in a very sensible order, with clear explanations, diagrams, and margin tips.

I really felt this book was very self explinatory, and unlike other web design books it really break down the different techniques need to create a web page of your own. I would really recommend this book to anybody looking to get there feet wet with web design. The author has a certain way of explaining subject matters that makes it easy to master the dreamweaver program.

I have Mr. Karlin's CS3 version of this book and will be upgrading myself to CS4, but I can say that unless something has seriously changed in the new release, this is a very useful guide that you will want to keep in arms reach.
I found this to be a very well-written and organized resource that allowed me to find exactly what I needed. Even better, if what I was looking for wasn't in the book, I was able to determine that quickly as well, which is just as important to me so I don't waste my time flipping through hoping to find what I need. Don't get me wrong though, most of what anyone needs to be a successful user of Dreamweaver IS IN THIS BOOK! I am a big fan of the "Visual Quickstart Guide" series of books because it is easy to grab, look for your topic, and find what you need. Mr. Karlins does an EVEN BETTER job as this "How-To's" series of books is an even quicker resource.
You won't find everything you need in here, and you will probabaly see some things you knew, but you will DEFINITELY find enough of those "a-ha" moments to make the book well worth the investment. If you are an upgrading Dreamweaver user, or just a casual user who doesn't dream in code, this is a perfect book for you. Quick topic finds, well-written layman's english, and spot-on techniques.
Well done David!
