The manual is a very detailed prescriptive how to guide for Dreamweaver. Page after page of instructions on how to do virtually anything possible in Dreamweaver. The book is well written and well organized that allows the reader to find what they need quickly. The instruction is just enough to complete the task but not so much that it blurs the issue.

I'm going to keep it short and sweet. This book is very informative and has the questions to everything you need to know about Dreamweaver. My instructor required this for my webdesign class last year. The one thing I don't like about the book is that it's a drag and it doesn't have any color to it. It has a few examples, but their in black and white so it makes it so boring to read.

I bought this book right at the end of my Dreamweaver class at a community college and it is fantastic. The only reason I didn't give this book 5 stars is that it has nothing about disjointed rollovers. For that I had to go back to my textbook, Garrick Chow's Dreamweaver CS3 which is otherwise a serviceable though somewhat minimal book.
Other than the disjointed rollover thing, I have to say that the Dreamweaver software really opened up for me when I got this dauntingly and rewardingly giant tome.
It is clear and logical in it's tutorials and explanations and that is so important for beginners. This book really knows it's stuff and knows what you need to know.

This book is exactly what I was looking for: a text to introduce the basic and advanced tools of Dreamweaver without bringing me all the way back to kindergarten. McFarland does an excellent job of providing detail to the point that his instruction is always straightforward without being demeaning or boring.
As an experienced computer user, I was able to get quickly up to speed in Dreamweaver CS3 with The Missing Manual. A+ instructional writing and tutorials! I recommend this book wholeheartedly.
Note: There are some errors throughout the text and tutorials, which I expect in any 1,000+ page technical document. Most of the errors are accounted for on the companion website. Furthermore, we often encounter small frustrations like these when designing for the web, so I think a little confusion here and there spices up the learning experience and is really just par for the course.
