Thanks to this book and Stanek's Windows 7 Admin Pocket Consultant, our Technology and Engineering groups are up and running Windows 7. No small accomplishment I assure you. Our transition was so successful our entire company is moving to Windows 7 starting next month.

The book starts out explaining what you need to know to get started and use Windows 7, the user interface, and teaches some special characteristics and key combinations on Wiindows 7 that are not well known. I really liked how the author drew the distinction between appearance and performance and what lies underneath the graphical user interface. There are helpful sections for the Search functions and menus. The book explains how to use the included applications and utilities, and even delves into all the multimedia apps from the point of view of an experienced expert.

What I liked most about Win 7 Def Guide are the clear and concise explanations. The sames true with all stanek's books. He gets straight to the point, covers each subject in sufficient detail, answering the why's, hows and what fors. His books are the only ones I ever read from start to finish and the reason is he packs in so many tips and extras. His experience with real world systems, as a consultant and as a trainer, make his books the best.

A few friends have bought some other Win 7 books and been sorely disappointed. I don't see how you could be disappointed with this one. This book is immediately valuable for beginners to intermediates to pros and I think it has much to say that you'll find to be valuable and helpful.

Don't waste your money here. Features are extolled but never explained how to use. This appears to have been written solely to get a book out. It will do very little in helping you use Windows 7.

Best Windows 7 book I've seen yet. - 2009-12-28

There are other, more highly detailed reviews here, so this one will be brief. For intermediate users and above, you won't be disappointed in this book. Even if you're a PC beginner, much of the information will be useful now and later.

One of the best things about this book is that it's easy to find things you're looking for because it has a great index. Unlike some books, this one's index is very helpful and will save you a lot of time finding what you're looking for.

Bought a new laptop the day after Thanksgiving and picked up this book to help me learn windows 7. Windows 7 Def Guide had the best explanations out of all the books I read through at the store. The writing style is clear and easy to follow and the organization is excellent.

This welcome book by William Stanek explains Microsoft's new operating system in both basic and advanced terms. Those who need to get up to speed quickly would do well to grab onto this book. The author has a complete grasp on the subject matter and is able to communicate it with such eashe that learning is almost effortless. This is a big book with lots of stuff in it.
