Better for business or ultimate vista - 2009-09-08

This a a great reference book if you want to install/run/manage Windows Vista the way Microsoft intends. There is very little about customizing the operating system or setting it up for individuals who don't need many of the extra components. I also found that a lot of the discussion involved using the group policy management or other features only available in the Business and Ultimate versions of Vista (something many administrators may need, but few home users will find helpful). It's not the best book for people with Home Basic or Home Premium.

Bought it for myself as a pocket reference. Ultimately, all of the information inside could be found online with some research but its good for the library shelf to be sure.

Ok but not a great book - 2009-05-24

You would think a book by the name of Administrators pocket consultant that it would have info about such things as cacls. This is a book for every day users not a admin looking for a book to help with remembering command switches for admin tools like cacls. I was dissapointed by this book the title is totally misleading.

Excellent for in depth, nitty gritty - 2009-04-12

My husband is an MCT and he has two copies of this book. One in his backpack and one that's always on his desk at work. He swears by this book. I use it at my office to save the day when problems arise and there's no one around to help. I've found answers to many of the more technical questions I needed answering. I've recovered computers in my office and solved many sticky problems.

Windows Vista Administrator Pocket Consultant is fairly easy to use and has answered most of my questions.
