The book is a good reference of the highlights of Java. It is not comprehensive and does not go into the details of the libraries but it does give you the basics.

If you are hoping to learn programming, the full Java library or a complete reference, this is not the book. It is more for someone who knows Java but needs reminders. I would imagine most programmers would quickly out grow this guide and need something more.
