Setting Light Accents

The different color temperatures of flash and artificial light can be specifically used to simulate evening sunlight. Common flashlights are well suited for special lighting because their light can be focused onto a relatively small area. The requirements are a darkened room (to minimize the influence of surrounding light on the image) and a stable tripod for the camera. Set the camera to a small aperture and a shutter speed of several seconds. Take a few test shots to determine how much time is necessary to illuminate the scene according to your taste. In the example to the right, 2 seconds at f/22 was enough time to partially submerge the coffee beans in a warm golden light. For the actual photograph, set the off-camera flash to synchron....
