I am an experienced programmer, but somewhat out of shape - hasn't been coding hands-on for a couple of years.  I was looking for a quick way to get started with PHP, learn the language and basic idioms of web input handling, cookies, database interaction, project structures, etc.
This book attempts to teach it, but it does an awful job at that.
The code examples don't work.
There is no coherent description of the database schema.
After spending several hours trying to make sense of this, I am writing off this time and moving on to something else.
