Overview

Many A+ certification guides prepare aspiring PC technicians to pass the exam, but they don’t put test objectives in a “practical use” context. Other PC repair guides cover A+ exam objectives in a real-world setting, but they don’t prepare students well enough to pass the test and get certifi ed. The A+ Exams Guide, Second Edition solves this problem by combining a complete test preparation for the new A+ examinations [Essentials (aka 220-601), 220-602, 220-603, and 220-604] with a hands-on guide that refl ects how the A+ exam questions apply to real-world PC repair problems. The book teaches users how to install and troubleshoot hardware, and provides solutions to common operating system-related problems for machines running Microsoft Windows. Each chapter includes numerous diagrams and photographs, and explains PC repair techniques using easy-to-understand language and accessible terms. Additionally, the book’s companion CD-ROM includes hundreds of CertBlaster A+ practice questions for all four of the current A+ exams so you can test yourself as you work through the book. This is the only guide you need to pass the A+ exams and get certified!

Use this book along with transcender and you will pass both tests with no problem. The chapter tests are a little easy, but if you study and understand the material you will pass the tests.

This book was very good. Concise, concentrated in it's information, lots of good test taking tips. Passed both exams the first time. Only issue was several questions on the practice exam were wrong.

It's been a very helpful guide, which reminded me of a lot of things I should know as an Info Tech Professional, like stopping and restarting the Print Spooler as a possible first step to resolving printer issues, and I did learn a thing or two. I did however find some mistakes in it, like page 237 where it talks about NIC adaptors having 10 digits - Media Access Control (MAC) addresses are 12 digits hexadecimal, not 10. That's probably just a typo, but it's a pretty major item for a test. Christopher is really good about giving the reader web sites that cover various topics more in depth.

I passed the OS part of the exam using this book, and wish I had the book for the hardware part of the test even though I passed that first time using just the 80/20 guide by Jean Andrews. The book is a nice read compared to most technical literature and manages to do that while still being in depth enough to make for a good reference book. There were not enough questions on the tests on the CD that came with the book to prepare well for the exams, so if you're going to use this book make sure you get some more practice elsewhere. I found the exams included with the 80/20 guide very helpful. There are also free simulated exams that can be found online.
