The Citrix Certified Administrator (CCA) credential is the first tier of Citrix certification. The CCA is most often sought out by IT professionals whose networks employ Citrix virtualization technology, and for those IT professionals who are seeking a broad base of general network expertise. The number of CCAs is estimated at between 65 and 70K, up from 45,000 in 2003. Citrix recently released a new version of its most popular product, XenApp (formerly Presentation Server). This new version is fully compatible with Windows Server 2008. To retain their CCA credential, all current CCAs will need to upgrade to the new software. This will be particularly important to those companies enrolled in Citrix partner programs, as current certification is a requirement of the program. When packaged with practice exams, this prep kit will offer an affordable, effective solution for CCA certification and re-certification.

I recently passed my Citrix 1Y0-A05 and I can say that this book was not the only study material I used. The book reads like it was written by many different authors and how it explains the topics falls short of what you really need to pass the exam. Also every "Exam Tip" box in the book did not even pertain to anything seen on the exam.
I learned more by reading the free materials from the Citrix website. I will still keep this by my desk for quick reference, but once again, this is not the book to read if you are trying to pass the Citrix Certified Administrator exam.
If you really want to pass, build a Citrix environment in a virtual lab, read the Citrix website guides and use this book as a way to transalte some of the information you stumble on.
You won't pass the test by studying this book alone - 2009-08-29

The cover of this book boldly declares: "Guaranteed Coverage: This comprehensive study guide guarantees 100% coverage of the CCA exam objectives." Unfortunately, this is NOT TRUE; this book provides good coverage of some topics, but leaves out coverage of many things that are on the test. Despite what it says on the cover, this book alone will not give you the information you need to pass the test.
What's missing from the book? A lot that was on the test. For example, the book gives no coverage of Isolation Environments, Virtual IP, Server Upgrades, Health Monitoring and Recovery and other topics you may find on the test.
Much of the 1Y0-259 Exam (the only test required for the CCA certification) concerns Presentation Server 4.5, which is not covered in this book. To study for the test, you will need the 4.5 Administrator's Guide, which can be downloaded from the Citrix Website. You will need to devote equal study time to both the 4.5 Administrator's Guide and the book, because the book leaves out too much information.
The book is well-written, and does provide good coverage of Xenapp 5.0, but the scope of the book is misrepresented by the publisher.
Before taking the test, I was an experienced Citrix engineer with versions up to 4.0. Because I trusted the "guaranteed 100% coverage" listed on the cover, I failed the test my first time, and wasted $150.

I'm preparing for CCA, the book is used directly to prepare for this exam. Still, I pick up lots and lots of useful "everyday" information, that I can use both to plan and troubleshoot systems running older versions of Citrix as well. Hopefully it will help me to achieve my certification also :-)

I like this book. I'm in the third chapter so far, and I think the book is very thorough and well written.
The only issue I have so far with this book is that when you look at the picture of the book's cover, (on this web site) there is a third bullet point that states "This package includes access to two Exam-Day Practice Exam, audio Fast Tracks for iPods or MP3 players, and presentations for Exam-Day review" but those items are missing (there is no CD or DVD), and that third bullet point is not on my copy of the book.
When I emailed the publisher, I was told that the items promised (probably on CD) had to be left out in order to get the book published sooner, as the publication of the book was delayed. When I wrote back to ask if there is any way for me to get the practice exams, audio recordings, and Presentations (ppt), I was ignored.
Very disappointing. But the book itself is really good.
