I hate to give this one star, as it is probably an excellent book...

but i just wanted to give a heads up to anyone thinking about purchasing this one (as I almost did)... that there is a newer version available from the same authors.

It is called "Learning Jquery 1.3" and covers the most recent version of jQuery. I give that title 5 stars. These authors have done an excellent job. In fact, it is probably the best IT book i have read as far as simplicity yet also being thorough. I dont normally review books, but I am very impressed with what they have done here. But, like I said, this one covers an older version of jQuery and probably should not even be sold anymore. Get "Learning jQuery 1.3".

This book is great for people that know css well, it makes javascript programming, so much better. If you understand how css works, attaching events, actions, animations is simple. What used to take 30 lines of Dom scripting to do can be done in 2. this book shows you how.

A simple and surprisingly lucid and concise guide to learning jQuery. Assumes a fairly good knowledge of CSS (e.g. deals with positioning and box model) and XHTML. The ongoing examples used to introduce new concepts are surprisingly agreeable and interesting.

This book is a nice, easy introduction to jQuery, but the version it covers is 1.1.2. Last month, the authors came out with a new edition, Learning jQuery 1.3, which has been completely updated. jQuery 1.2 and 1.3 both introduced significant changes; for instance, CSS selectors are now done completely differently. If you're going to get into jQuery, go for the latest version.
