Chapter 1. Setting Up a Gmail Account

Before you can begin using Gmail, you must first be invited to create an account. Yes, this is a “by invitation only” party. In this chapter, we’ll step through the process of receiving an invitation and creating a Gmail account. In preparation for using the account to send and receive email messages, you’ll also set your General Mail Settings.

After you’ve created an account, you’ll learn how to invite others to create their own Gmail accounts. And if you should eventually want to cancel the Gmail service, instructions are provided for that, too.
