The purpose of a user interface is to bring the player into the game in the most clear and efficient way while providing an enjoyable and appealing experience. Having a comprehensible interface that is easy to understand and navigate takes the skilled eye of a designer. I strongly encourage you to study the foundations and principles of graphic design. Paying attention to positive and negative spaces, balance, color, and focus are essential to the process.
