Photoshop

In my opinion, Adobe Photoshop is the most robust and refined digital imaging program available. The majority of the computer graphics software on the market today is based in some way on the ideas that were first established in Photoshop. Photoshop is still one of the most powerful, stable, and productive software packages in the industry.

For the purposes of this book, I will assume you have had some experience using Photoshop, but I still want to go over a few common procedures.

Image Resizing

Resizing an image is a fairly simple procedure. Let’s walk through the process using an example.

1. Open Grass.tga from the files you downloaded from the book’s page on the New Riders web site (see Figure 3.10).

2. The figure’s resolution is 512×512. We can verify and change that number by using the Image Size command. You can access this command either from the Image menu or by right-clicking on the top bar of the image. In the dialog box that appears, you can see the size and resolution information for this particular image. To change the size, type “256” into the top window. If you know that you want to keep the image the same proportion, check the Constrain Proportions box (see Figure 3.11).
