Foreword: Making Games

Congratulations! you have made a most excellent career choice. Other than official ice cream taster or full-time massage school test subject, there aren’t many jobs better than this one. I would even argue that making entertainment is a noble calling, because if done right, it can make people happy. And that’s not bad for a day’s work.

But this is not a career for the faint of heart. One of the things that can make our industry so exciting is also one of things that makes it so difficult: rapid evolution. New platforms, new versions, new techniques—things are always emerging from the ether that force you to adapt and grow. You will be hard-pressed to find another industry where how you do something can change so radically from year to year.
