A True Artist First

The most important advice I can offer you, and a recurring theme in this book, is that in order to be a successful game artist, you need to focus on your traditional art skills.

What does it mean to be an artist? It means thinking creatively. Artists have a certain sense of design and aesthetics; they can draw, paint, sing, or dance. But what really sets us apart is our ability to imagine and create. Whether you were born with a creative predisposition, or you’ve trained your mind and skills over the years, the outcome is the same. It’s the way we see and feel the world around us that makes us unique and valuable. Unfortunately, many people that pursue 3D art do not realize the value of true artistic skills...and it shows.
