9.1 WebSphere MQ overview WebSphere MQ is a product that enables applications running on a myriad of platforms to exchange messages through a common set of Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) that are known in the WebSphere MQ documentation as the Message Queue Interface (MQI). WebSphere MQ (IBM MQSeries®) began its evolution with Version 1.1, which was made generally available at the end of 1993 through to Version 7.0, which was delivered in the middle of 2008. The product provides a consistent, flexible, and reliable mechanism to deliver messages between applications (Figure 9-1).
