6 Chapter 6. Installing to a virtual file system This chapter provides details about how software is installed over the Grid. To this end, it deals with the strategy of virtualizing the software installation by using a network file system as discussed in Chapter 3, "Virtual file system" on page 31. The aim is to demonstrate the pitfalls of trying to install software applications over a network file system, and how it can be performed for a few common types of service-related applications.
