1 Chapter 1. Exploring J2EE and WebSphere Application Server This chapter provides an introduction and overview of both the Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EETM) and WebSphere Application Server. The objective is to give you a better understanding of the J2EE architecture and to help you become more comfortable and familiar with the various related terms and concepts. In addition, this chapter briefly touches on the programming language, known as Java , that completes this relationship. Although this book is tailored for new users of this technology, it is beneficial for seasoned users as well.
