Canada > WORKWEEK

WORKWEEK

Canadians generally work Monday through Friday from 9:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M.; banking and shopping hours vary. The Lord’s Day Act originally prohibited shopping on Sundays, but some provinces have changed the law, allowing local municipalities to decide whether to allow Sunday shopping. Canada has a 36.5-hour workweek, but many executives exceed those hours.

Canadian firms are expected to offer employees 10 to 15 paid vacation days. In addition, there are approximately 11 official holidays, which may or may not be paid.
