Chapter 11. Manufacturing and Construction > The Contracting Business

The Contracting Business

As the Spouse House business grew, Rosie received more and more orders for fancier Spouse Houses. Wealthy customers wanted plumbing, built-in television and stereo, a kitchen, deluxe furniture, and a security system. Some of the orders were for houses so large that they could not be built in the factory and delivered on a truck, but had to be built on location. That put the Spouse House Company into the construction business. Rosie set up another company to engage in this and called it the S.H. Construction Company.

Guess who she hired to manage this construction business? Fred, who used to sell her sheds. He had become somewhat bored with sailing around and around the world and found his cash depleted. From their earlier association, Rosie knew he was a diligent manager, so she picked him to run this segment of her growing empire.
