SOA governance is a relatively new topic introduced as a result of general confusion and failure to design, build, and implement effective SOA-based enterprise applications. With the flexibility and power of Business Process Modeling, together with the open and independent nature of Web Services, many organizations struggled to build consistent and well-architected, large-scale integrated applications. As such, a set of recommended practices was established to make sure SOA projects limit complexity by following clear standards and good practices.
