Platform Layer

If the platform is slow, almost everything that depends on it will be slow. This is not, however, a common reality. It’s usually the pieces that sit on top of the platform that ask it to work in a way that presents a challenge, either by exhausting the resources it has available or by using conflicting or unsuitable instructions. Let’s look at a few of the platform pieces and see how we can monitor and manage their performance.

More Fusion Middleware Performance

We’ve already looked at performance for SOA, BI, and ESS. In a later section you’ll learn about WebLogic Server performance. So what is left? Quite a bit, actually.

The Web Server

The initial entry point for most requests is the HTTP web server, and under certain circumstances, it can run into problems that might degrade performance, both from unexpected high load and lack of efficient request processing. Fusion Applications Control (under the Web Tier folder) offers yet another dashboard and Performance Summary for reviewing the performance of the Oracle HTTP Server (OHS), showing request processing load and response times, throughput, as well as CPU and memory use.
