Using Oracle Secure Enterprise Search

Distinct from Oracle Text, Oracle Secure Enterprise Search (SES) is a comprehensive secure enterprise search product. Oracle SES uses Oracle Text as its full-text index engine but offers many additional features.

First, Oracle SES provides out-of-box query and administration applications. Within these applications, there are many prebuild search features such as index data source management, content categorization, and query UI customizations. These features greatly simplify the process of building search applications on the data stored in Oracle Database 11g.

Second, Oracle SES provides built-in security to manage the search index so that unauthorized content access is not allowed.

Third, Oracle SES provides search crawlers. The database crawler can index multiple database tables/columns with a simple SQL statement. The other crawlers, such as web crawlers and enterprise application crawlers, can search web pages, files systems, and enterprise applications such as Oracle Universal Content Management System (UCM), Oracle WebCenter Suite, Oracle OBIEE, Oracle Siebel, Oracle E-Business Suite, and others.
