Oracle XML Database (XML DB) refers to the database technology in the Oracle database designed to store, manage, and retrieve XML. In the enterprise database applications, Oracle XML DB plays a key role in offering large-scale XML data storage, simplified XML data management, and high-performance XML retrieval and processing.

This chapter introduces XML and Oracle XML DB through a discussion of key XML DB components, its native XMLType storage, and the basic XML processing capabilities.
