Scalability and Performance

Scalability and high availability are the two most significant advantages offered by Oracle RAC. If you were to look up the word scalability on Dictionary.com, you’d see the following definition: “How well a solution to some problem will work when the size of the problem increases.”

A system is said to be “fully scalable” if its response time remains unchanged, whether it serves 1, 100, 1,000, or any other number of users. Consider a real-life example: If the freeways are 100-percent scalable, travel time from point A to point B will always remain the same, whether one car is on the highway or millions of cars. Are highways fully scalable? Probably not! A four-lane freeway with properly designed exit and entrance ramps might support hundreds or even thousands of cars, but if the number of cars increases beyond a limit, the drivers will have to slow down to yield and to avoid accidents. A freeway that is scalable for thousands of cars and allows them to travel at a speed of 65 mph may not be able to support the same nu....
