Global Cache Service Times

The Global Cache Services layer also tracks the various latencies for most of the service times associated with the block transfers. The timing mechanism is well instrumented and provides a wealth of information about the performance of Cache Fusion at the global level. We will be discussing the most important service times in the global cache layer and their significance in performance management of Oracle RAC.

Like any other Oracle kernel calls, when one instance makes a request for a resource, the kernel starts a timer to measure the service times. Each individual request is timed from the point when the request is made until it completes. This statistic represents the cumulated end-to-end elapsed time or latency for a current block request.
