CHAPTER 14 Oracle RAC Troubleshooting > Debugging Node Eviction Issues

Debugging Node Eviction Issues

One of the most common and complex issues in Oracle RAC is performing the root cause analysis (RCA) of the node eviction issues. Oracle evicts a node from the cluster mainly due to one of the following three reasons:

image The node is not able to complete the network heartbeat (NHB).

image The node is not able to complete the disk heartbeat (DHB).

image The node does not have enough CPU to perform either of the heartbeat operations.

The whole troubleshooting theory to debug node evictions in Oracle Clusterware revolves around the aforementioned reasons. You must read the previous chapters in this book to understand how Oracle performs network and disk heartbeats—it is very important to understand this process before you attempt to troubleshoot node evictions. The node eviction process is reported as Oracle error ORA-29740 in the alert log and LMON trace files. To determine the root cause, first look at the Oracle Clusterware alert_hostname.log.
