Chapter 6 Mastering Business Rules > The Rule Data Model

The Rule Data Model

Facts are the objects that business rules reason on. Also, facts provide a mechanism for business rules to invoke Java methods as actions. Oracle Business Rules 11g features the following type of facts: XML facts, Java facts, RL facts, and ADF BC facts.

XML Facts

Oracle Business Rules can import element and type definitions in XSDs and BPM Business Objects as XML facts. To invoke business rules as a decision service from BPM/SOA and other Web Service clients, input and output facts must be of the type XML facts. When a business rule dictionary is created from the BPM business rules wizard, XML facts are automatically populated.

Internally, XML facts are Java facts. Oracle Business Rules uses JAXB 2.0 to create Java types from XSD.
