Architecture Overview and Summary

The Architecture Overview and Summary (AV-1) model (see Figure 3.2-1) is the representation of all the information that relates to an architecture development effort, including its ultimate configuration management, versioning, and release. The AV-1 is the very first model constructed during an architecture development effort. It establishes the purpose for building the architecture as well as the scope of the architecture coverage in terms of key performers, locations, activities, information exchanges, resource flows, events, external players, and external exchanges. It also describes the viewpoints that are modeled and details the specific models that will be built as well as the assumptions and constraints that bound the architecture effort.
