Aspects of the Systems Viewpoint

The Systems Viewpoint enables analysis of systems from many aspects. Each of the SV models has a different purpose for the system analyst. The following subsections discuss some of these aspects.

System Resource Flows/Information Exchanges

The counterpart to the Operational Viewpoint model OV-2 is the SV-1 Systems Resource Flow Model. The SV-1 replaces the operational performers and locations in the OV-2 with systems performers and systems hosting locations, and replaces the operational needlines that indicated needs for exchange of information and flow of resources with interfaces that also require the exchange of information and resource flows between systems performers. If every operational performer were to be supported by a single system, the layout of the SV-1 would perfectly match the layout of the OV-2. But in reality, multiple systems support a single performer, and nonautomated activities in the operational realm do not have a system counterpart in the systems real....
