CHAPTER 15 Triggers > DDL Triggers

DDL Triggers

DDL triggers fire when you create, change, or remove objects from the database. These triggers aren’t used frequently in production because of the nominal load on the database. When they are deployed, it’s typically to monitor the GRANT and REVOKE privilege statements or the creation of tables where collections should be used.

Oracle DDL Triggers

Oracle supports DDL triggers, and Table 15-1 lists the data definition events that work with DDL triggers. These triggers support both BEFORE and AFTER event triggers and work at the database or schema level. (Oracle usage of database here means across the Oracle Server.)

You can leverage 27 different event attributes in DDL triggers. If you’re interested in a broader coverage of possibilities, check Chapter 10 of the Oracle Database 11g PL/SQL Programming book.
