Hiring a Crisis Management Consultant

There are two secrets to hiring the right crisis management consultant for your organization.

First, look for someone who has experience in your area, whether you’re a company, a not-for-profit, a governmental agency, or something else. There are so many unique aspects to crises in different fields that it’s smart to get someone to help you who has already worked in your field.

Second, hire them now. Don’t wait for a crisis to break. For years my website has said: “If you have a breaking crisis NOW, call _______.” And I can’t tell you how often that’s exactly the way I get new clients. I wish it weren’t. I wish they’d have called me a year ago, or even six months ago. I might have been able to help them prepare—and saved them a lot of money in lost revenues, legal expenses, or shareholder value.
