In Chapter 2, I recommended that a Maturity Model be utilized to support the effective governance of Product Management. It was referred to as the Product Management Maturity Model-G (G stands for “Governance”).
Getting ready to govern requires some preparation. You can start by doing this exercise as an initial evaluation of your organization’s Product Management maturity level. Go to Figure 9.1, “Initial Evaluation of Product Management Maturity.” The table has a main column, labeled at the top “Attributes for Product Management Governance.” The next three columns have these headings across the top: “A, Current Usage”; “B, Desired Usage”; and “C, Gap.”
In the A column, use the scoring scale described below to indicate the degree of consistency or predictability of that particular attribute based on how this area is being used in your company.
