4 Reporting > Overview

Overview

The first thing you should do, and I would even propose doing this during the design meeting, is to gather your reports; that is to say, ask yourself, “What are you trying to build?” This system should be focused on the reports and detail you want to get out of it. The structure of your database should be built to support the reporting you need to do. The main goal of a system like this always includes good reports. You would do yourself a favor to think about your end product first. In fact, the more reports you have, the more important this is to do.

There are several tools that will allow you to build reports. The first tool is Financial Reports (FR). These reports are typically the monthly book that comes from the printer every month. They are reports that are run for many members with the same view, like a balance sheet. Web Analysis (WA) reports are the dashboard-type reports, quick snapshots or dashboards of information. There is very little information in these reports relative to the others, although they may have some of the most valuable information needed to run your business. There are Smart View and Ad Hoc reports. These are the reports you can’t build for people, as they will be created as needed. There are System Reports, which include journal reports and intercompany matching reports. There are also Support and Audit Reports, which include the users on the system, task audit, data audit, and system messages. Finally, there are the Security Reports: configuration changes, security changes, role access, class access, and role inheritance reports.
