Formatting

Good formatting is critical to writing a good rule file. Formatting includes proper spacing, indenting, and naming conventions. You should always indent when you’re writing scripts. Each line should have some comments. You can provide an explanation of what each section of the rules file is built to accomplish by adding lines that begin with an apostrophe and are considered “commented out” or commentary.

When using Calculation Manager, you should have a consistent and clear naming convention. The description should be intuitive and brief. For the naming convention, use short prefixes. Consider something that identifies rule sets, rule objects, and rule components. These practices will create easily read flow charts and rules within the graphical user interface of HFM. Writing scripts with VBScript requires more careful work with the formatting.
