Dynamic Rules

Dynamic accounts are dynamically calculated when the data is requested. The values are not stored; they are calculated “on the fly.” Most commonly, you would see these as ratios. Parent totals for accounts, custom dimensions, and time periods are calculated dynamically; they are not aggregated from children. These rules are some of the easiest rules to write. Since they only run when called, they have no impact on the database, and so the only risk is a bad grid or report when run. People get into trouble with these rules by just not understanding the limitations. Look at Figure B-21 to see an example of Dynamic rules. The underlying script would look something like Figure B-22.
