Maintaining Your Registry > Oracle HFM Application Design

Oracle HFM Application Design

It is important to make sure that your application follows the principles of good design. If you are still having issues, you have options to fine-tune the application and its features.

Subcubes as described earlier in Chapter 3 are critical to a well-performing Financial Management. Subcubes impact just about everything that HFM does, including grids, forms, reports—everything. Processing through subcubes happens while they are stored in memory, so the larger the subcube, the bigger the hit on performance.

Rules that are poorly written will do more to kill HFM performance than just about anything else. One of the biggest problems with rules is that they rely so much on the data set they are running on. So you can test and validate with your data continuously, but not capture every possible error. Some rules are poorly written, and will still perform well because the data set does not expose the problem. Rules can also create zeros that can fill and choke the database over time. These zeros increase the size of the subcubes.
