Chapter 7: ENGAGEMENT TRENDS > Recognizing and Addressing Stress

Recognizing and Addressing Stress

Stress is a reality for employees in all industries. While stress levels obviously vary from person to person, it is one job aspect nearly all employees experience on some level. Rather than turning a blind eye to this issue, a recent workplace trend is addressing it through open communication between employees and employers.

Simply thinking about the upcoming workday can sometimes be enough to fill overworked employees with a sense of impending dread. Worrying about a never-ending to-do list can cause chronic anxiety, even for top performers. In fact, 66 percent of employees believe they currently suffer from job stress.6 Importantly, I believe the people who experience the most stress generally care the most about the organization and doing a great job: the Engaged employees. To combat job stress, rather than losing top talent to burnout managers must tackle the issue of stress head on with open communication.
